From old times the rabbit has been regarded as a symbol of eternal youth because of a tale of rabbits pounding the elixir of life in a mortar under a laurel tree on the moon or a symbol of fecundity and great fortune because it can become pregnant up to six times a year and have up to 20 litters at once, conjuring up an image of an ideal world of peaceful, abundant, carefree and prosperous living.
The rabbit is such a cautious and clever animal that it carves a new way when winter goes and spring comes in and can find the fastest and safest path to its home to protect itself from other animals.
It is also an emblem of wisdom and wit.
