맷돌금(大) 식별번호 - 22133592
밀 같은 곡물을 가루로 만들고 팥 ·콩 ·메밀 ·녹두 등을 거칠게 타거나 물에 불린 콩을 가는 데 쓰는 농기구다.
맷돌의 기원은 BC3000∼BC2000년경 한국의 신석기시대가 시작된 이후 석기인들에 의해 개발된 것으로 추정되고 있다.
또한 맷돌은 착한 나무꾼이 무거운 맷돌을 지고 가는 할머니를 대신해 들어주고 맷돌에서 금은보화가 나와 부자가 되었지만 그 맷돌을 훔쳐 달아난 욕심 많은 소금장수는 소금이 배 안을 가득 채워 결국 바다에 가라앉고 말았다는 교훈적인 설화를 담고 있다.
A millstone is one of a pair of stone farm tools used to grind wheat grain or water-soaked beans into flour or break peas, beans, buckwheat, or mung beans into coarse pieces. It is assumed to have been developed after the Neolithic Era began in the Korean peninsula between B.C.
3000 and B.C. 2000. Millstones are featured in an instructive folktale: A honest woodcutter becomes rich with a lot of treasures he got from millstones after helping an old woman in carrying the pair of heavy stones.
The millstones are stolen by a greedy salt peddle and he runs away with them on a boat, but soon his boat full of salt sinks into the sea.
